How to cancel The Washington Post

Cancel WaPo online or by phone. Strong retention deals — often $4/month for 12 months when you threaten to leave.

Online:

  1. Sign in at washingtonpost.com → click your profile (top right) → My Subscription
  2. Click ManageCancel
  3. WaPo shows a series of retention offers (usually a 50-75% discount for 12 months)
  4. To actually cancel, click Continue Cancellation through each offer until you see "Subscription cancelled"

By phone (often better deals): 1-800-477-4679, Mon-Fri 6:30am-7pm ET, Sat-Sun 8am-5pm ET.

Script: "I'd like to cancel. The price has gone up and I'm comparing it against other subscriptions."

The retention scripts on phone are typically more generous than the web — expect $4/month for 12 months at minimum. Some users get $1/month for 6 months.

Annual vs monthly: If you've decided to keep it, the annual rate is significantly cheaper. Tell the retention rep "I'll stay if you can get me to roughly half what I'm paying now" — they often have authority to do exactly that.

Free via Amazon Prime? WaPo has occasionally run a "free 6-month digital access for Amazon Prime members" deal. Check washingtonpost.com/amazon if you're a Prime member.
