How to cancel The Athletic

Online (standalone Athletic subscription):

1. Sign in at theathletic.com → click your profile (top right) → Subscription Settings
2. Click Cancel Subscription
3. Click Continue to Cancel through the retention screens
4. Confirm. Access continues until billing ends.

Bundled with NYT All Access: If you got The Athletic free as part of an NYT subscription, you cancel it through NYT (myaccount.nytimes.com), not Athletic. Cancelling NYT removes The Athletic.

By app store (Apple/Google): If you subscribed via the app, cancel in iOS Settings → Subscriptions, or Google Play → Subscriptions. You can't cancel an app-billed subscription on the website.

Retention deals: The Athletic regularly offers $1.99/month for 6 months or first-year at 60% off to retention contacts. If you're price-sensitive, the website's "Cancel" flow now shows these inline.

Standalone is $5.99/mo or $59.99/yr. Annual is the same as ~10 months of monthly — saves you 2 months a year if you read sports year-round.
