How to cancel Financial Times
Cancel FT online or by phone. UK-based with strict refund rules; phone gets the best retention deals.
Online:
- Sign in at ft.com → click your profile (top right) → Account & Settings
- Click Subscription Settings → Cancel Subscription
- FT walks through retention offers (often 50% off for 6 months)
- Click Continue Cancellation to skip → confirm
Phone:
- UK: +44 20 7775 6500
- US: 1-800-628-8088
- Mon-Fri 8am-6pm GMT / corresponding local hours
Phone retention is better. Standard FT Standard is £42/mo ($59/mo); reps can drop you to ~£12-15/mo for a year if you press. Script: "I'd like to cancel — the price is no longer sustainable for my usage."
Refund policy is strict. Under EU/UK consumer law, FT refunds within 14 days of subscription start for digital. Outside that, no refunds — even for annual plans.
Plan tiers:
- FT Edit (~£5/mo) — 8 hand-picked articles per day. Substantially cheaper, often missed.
- FT Standard (~£42/mo) — full digital access
- FT Premium (~£75/mo) — adds lex column, Alphaville, expert commentary
If you read sporadically, downgrading to FT Edit gives you most of the editorial value at 12% of the price.
Group / institutional access: Many universities, banks, consultancies, and large companies have group FT access. If you're paying personally, check if your employer or alma mater covers it.
Trial cancellation: FT's "free month" trial auto-converts. Cancel by day 28 (not day 30) to leave buffer — you keep access through the rest of the trial after cancelling.
