How to cancel Equinox

Equinox requires written notice. A phone call isn't enough on its own.

Step 1: Send written cancellation. Either:

• Email your home club directly (find the email on equinox.com → your club → contact). Subject: "Cancellation request — [Your Name], Member #". Include your member number and intended cancellation date.
• In person at your home club — get the cancellation form, fill it out, get a signed copy.
• Certified mail to your home club's address, return receipt requested.

Step 2: Get written confirmation. Don't trust verbal "okay, you're cancelled." If you don't have it in writing from Equinox confirming your last billing date, your subscription is still active in their system.

The notice period: Most US Equinox contracts require at least 7 days written notice before your next billing date. Some markets (NYC) have longer notice — read your specific contract or ask your club. Cancelling on the 28th of the month for a charge on the 1st often doesn't beat the notice clock.

Annual contract: If you committed annually, early cancellation triggers a buyout fee — usually a flat $300-500 or the remaining months at full rate, whichever is less. Read your contract.

The "transfer" angle: If you're moving, Equinox has transfer to another club without re-paying initiation. Worth asking before pure cancellation.

Membership pause: Some clubs allow a 30-90 day medical pause with a doctor's note, free or reduced fee. If the cancellation is for a temporary reason (injury, travel), ask about pause first.
