How to cancel Dropbox

Cancel Dropbox online in 5 minutes. Watch the storage downgrade — you'll need to delete files if over the free 2GB.

Online:

  1. Sign in at dropbox.com → click your avatar (top right) → Settings
  2. Click the Plan tab → Cancel Plan
  3. Dropbox offers retention deals (50% off for 3 months is common). Click Continue cancellation through them.
  4. Confirm. Plus/Family/Professional drops to Basic (Free) — 2GB.

STORAGE DOWNGRADE WARNING. Dropbox Plus gives you 2TB. The free tier gives you 2GB. If you have more than 2GB after the downgrade, Dropbox stops syncing new files until you delete enough to get under the limit. Your files aren't immediately deleted, but new changes don't sync.

Before cancelling:

  1. Audit what's actually in Dropbox: dropbox.com → check storage usage in Settings
  2. Move important files to local storage, Google Drive, or another provider
  3. Delete what you no longer need
  4. Get under 2GB before the plan downgrades, not after

Annual plan refunds: Dropbox refunds prorated annual subscriptions within 30 days of renewal. Outside that window, no refund — access continues to the renewal date.

Alternative plans: Plus is $11.99/mo for 2TB. The Family plan ($19.99/mo, 6 people, 2TB shared) is cheaper if you'd split. Or downgrade to Basic free and use a cheaper service for the overflow.

Free alternatives if you're cancelling for cost: Google Drive (15GB free), iCloud (5GB free + $0.99/mo for 50GB), pCloud (10GB free).
