How to cancel Amazon Prime
Cancel Prime online in 5 minutes. Amazon usually offers a partial refund based on how much you've used.
Online:
- Sign in at amazon.com → Account & Lists → Prime Membership
- Click Manage Membership → End Membership
- Amazon walks you through what you'll lose (Prime Video, free shipping, Whole Foods discount). Click Continue to Cancel through each screen
- On the final screen, choose either:
- End Now — Amazon usually refunds a prorated amount based on benefits used
- End on [date] — keep using until your next billing date, no refund
Want a refund? If you cancel mid-period and haven't used Prime shipping recently, choose "End Now" — Amazon's system calculates a refund. If you've ordered a lot with Prime shipping, "End on [date]" is usually better because the refund would be small or zero.
Save part of Prime: You can keep Prime Video standalone ($8.99/mo) without the full Prime membership ($14.99/mo). Cancel Prime first, then re-subscribe to just Prime Video.
Annual members: if you've used very few Prime benefits since your last renewal, you can usually get a full refund — Amazon's customer service has discretion here. Cancel via chat (faster than phone) and ask politely.
