How to cancel AAA Membership

AAA has ~30 independent regional clubs (AAA Auto Club South, CAA, AAA NCNU, etc.). The cancellation process varies by club, but the basics:

Phone (recommended): Find your club's phone number on the back of your membership card or at aaa.com → My AAA → Account. Most clubs:

• AAA Mid-Atlantic: 1-800-222-4357

Script: "I'd like to cancel my AAA membership and request a refund of the unused portion."

Most clubs offer prorated refunds. Unlike many memberships, AAA is generally willing to refund the unused portion of your annual dues. Some clubs charge a small cancellation fee ($5-15), others don't.

By mail (if phone is difficult): Send a signed letter to your club's address with your membership number, request for cancellation, and signature. Certified mail with return receipt for proof of delivery.

Renewal timing: AAA auto-renews annually about 30 days before expiration. If you cancel within 30 days before the renewal, no charge for the upcoming year. If you cancel within 30 days after the renewal, you may still get a prorated refund — depends on the club.

Roadside service one-time uses: If you only need AAA occasionally, many clubs offer pay-per-use roadside service for non-members ($75-150 per call). Cheaper than a $60-100 annual membership if you have <1 emergency per year.

Insurance bundled: Some AAA memberships include insurance discounts (auto, home, life). Cancelling the membership doesn't cancel the insurance — those are separate. But discount eligibility may end.

Mobile and Plus tier downgrades: Each club offers Basic / Plus / Premier tiers. Downgrading is sometimes a better option than full cancellation if you use the service occasionally.
