Media is a low price, high volume business where postage is a huge share of every order. A used book selling for a few pounds might cost nearly as much to send, which means the margin lives or dies on shipping efficiency rather than on the buying price.
Much of the stock is one of a kind, particularly in used books, vinyl and out of print material. That makes it closer to resale than to conventional retail, with per item cost basis and no meaningful reorder point.
Condition drives price enormously. The same title in different condition can be worth wildly different amounts, and getting the grading wrong is the most common cause of returns and negative feedback in this category.
